Put Representative Lynn Westmoreland in the 'how stupid does he think we are?' category.

The Georgia congressman called Barack and Michelle Obama "uppity" on Thursday. He was offered an opportunity to correct his word choice but chose to repeat it instead. USA Today has the audio clip if you want to hear it.

Today the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the phones rang off the hook in his office. He and his staff then offered the excuse that the congressman really meant they were elitists. They went on to assert that the southern congressman knew nothing of the history of the word as a part of a racial epithet directed at former slaves.

Right, and I have a Bridge to Nowhere Alaska to sell you Congressman.
